What makes this inconvenient truth so difficult is that the figures change. The most recent UN report has reduced the rise in the sea level from 36 inches/3 feet to less than half that (17 inches). I realize that as more studies are done different facts may emerge, but it makes it more difficult to accept some of the conclusions. The amount of effort that we will have to do to reduce global warming due to carbon dioxide is monumental. We will have to give up our big cars and go to dramatically more efficient ones. 16mpg highway to 37/38 or even more. Our homes will have to reduce consumption to much less than what it is currently. If we truly believe in this, then we need strong leadership that not only talks the talk but walks the walk by getting Congress to abandon its wasteful spending and reallocates that to tax incentives that work to resolve this. (tax breaks for dramatically more efficient homes either new or rehabbed and tax deductions for buying truly efficient cars.)
