Yeah!! That is what we need. Felons trained in the acts of war. I'll feel much safer now. Bush is showing his party is the party of desperate measures. I have to wonder how he can sleep at night. I will continue to laugh at and be amazed at the level of stupidity shown by this administration. When I was fighting for my country I didn't want to have to worry about the guy next to me. What is next? Mental patients who hate our enemies? Just completely ludicrous. I applaud the Bushies. You are sinking to new lows daily. Next election not soon enough for me. Thanks for the post jovial.

There are ALREADY documented, serious problems in the military with GANGS. I posted a couple of stories about it WEEKS ago, one or both from armytimes.com, which makes this story even more bizarre.
If the military knows that there are gang problems, then why in the world would they do even MORE to enlist criminals?
It boggles the mind - the cr*P going on and the NOTHING that continues to be done about it ...

You dont hear that much about the gangs in the media (must be those liberals again trying to hide all that) and lately not a lot about recruitment numbers. With the military lately its not about WHO you get its how many. They have lowered requirements for entry into service to make numbers. Next you'll hear about a simplification of training to push em thru (something like Pointy End In Breech for arms training).

I was talking to a retired army ranger friend of mine. He still has a lot of actives he is in contact with. There are definitely some things going on that he has some serious reservations about. As much as he loves this country he sees some management problems in the upper echelons. We both agree the draft should never have been halted. It not only serves to keep the military stocked with trained personell. It also leaves a large force of trained soldiers in reserve. Should our country ever require a standing army right away we would be hurting right now. Again these leaders of the past 40 years make me wonder.

DarkWizard----"We might as well have criminals in the Army...their Commander in Chief is a criminal!"
Correct. These are the depths to which our illustrious CIC has allowed our military to sink.

To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. (1918)

Unfortunately the President steadfastedly refuses to institute the draft. People are leaving the Army and the Marines and not reenlisting. The military is being stretched to the breaking point. The war-mongerers speak of additional military confrontations in Iran, but they don't have anyone to send. So now we have settled for the dregs of society to fill our need for fresh bodies to put into the meatgrinder of war. Politicians continue to put their ideology in front of the people's interest. The infatuation of increasing their wealth, power, and influence ahead of the standards of normal human decency. I think wars should be fought between politicians. Leave the masses out of it. When these politicians are confronted with the real horror and frustration of war and battle, they might be a little more hesitant to be hasty.
