My favorite song to play on guitar, just because of the solos.
BTW, my neighbors are tired of PF. =D

Awsome post Ricky! Have listened to Pink Floyd for years, but for some reason have never gotten around to seeing any of their videos except for Learning to Flying. Though I have seen Maynard with Tool do a amazing cover of Comfortably Numb. Which from what I hear, is a good song Maynard can relate too.

In the movie "The Wall", Pink was an actual rocker who ends up becoming a burned out junkie. This song doesn't bring joy to me. For every time I hear "Comfortably Numb", I think of someone I personally knew who shaved off all this hair, including beard and eye-brows, (like Pink in the movie), as a way to keep from being ID'd when he OD'd in a lonely, dark and dank, San Francisco hotel room. He didn't want his family knowing that he committed suicide, which explained the shaving. Of course, he failed, and, it greatly hurt those who loved him. He had contracted Hep-B and MIGHT have had the first case of HIV infection as well. It was early 1979, the year this song came out on "The Wall" album. Hearing of his passing left me numb, but, not comfortably. Man, how his dad suffered. It actually made him more devout in his religion.

While I sympathize with your grief and have also seen the same thing too many times over, I've always heard this song as going even deeper than that as a philosophical comment on modern life. How we numb ourselves to the realities of what is done in our name our wars our evils our destructions. How we are just bricks in the wall, the machine that consumes us feeds off us puts us in brown felt fascist uniforms. So we escape we get comfortable we get numb. We buy this or that watch this or that go here or there screw this or that brag about this or that pretend to be this or that swallow this smoke snort shoot up that anything that distracts us from the hard harsh unmoving unforgiving r e a l i t y. The numbing is the dumbing down of our minds until we are comfortably stupid. It may not be what Pink Floyd intended but it works for me. I never much liked seeing their songs put to picture. I've already had my own epiphanies going on with their wisdoms and insights. Waters is a Sage.
